Vitamin C derivatives are more stable but must convert in skin to act.
This is a vitamin C derivative rather than pure L-ascorbic acid. Derivatives are far more stable and work at skin-friendly pH, but they have to convert to ascorbic acid in the skin to act, and conversion efficiency varies. Evidence for derivatives is generally thinner than for L-ascorbic acid, though tolerability is usually better.
